English Translation
Hasan told us: Shayban told us, from Qatada, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Prophet of God, peace and blessings be upon him, was once invited to barley bread and rancid dripping. He said: And I heard him one day of severe hardship saying: 'By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no morning came upon the family of Muhammad with a measure of grain nor a measure of dates in it, though he had nine wives that day; and he had pawned his coat of mail with a Jew in Medina, from whom he had taken food, and he found no way to redeem it.'
