English Translation
Ya'qub told us: My father told us, from Ibn Ishaq: Yahya ibn al-Harith al-Jabir told me, from Abd al-Warith, the freedman of Anas ibn Malik, and Amr ibn Amir, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade visiting graves, eating the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, and making nabidh in gourds, hollowed logs, glazed jars, and pitch-lined vessels. He said: Then the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said after that: 'I had indeed forbidden you three things, then it became clear to me otherwise concerning them. I forbade you to visit graves; then it became clear to me that it softens the heart, brings tears to the eye, and reminds one of the Hereafter, so visit them, but do not say anything improper. And I forbade you to eat the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three nights; then it became clear to me that people give gifts to their guests and set some aside for those who are absent, so keep what you wish. And I forbade you the nabidh in these vessels; so drink from whatever you wish, but do not drink anything intoxicating. Whoever wishes may tie up his waterskin upon a sin, if he insists on making a forbidden drink.'
