English Translation
Ya'qub told us: My father informed us, from Ibn Ishaq: Ziyad ibn Abi Ziyad, the freedman of Ibn Abbas, told me: I went, along with Umar, after Hisham ibn Isma'il, who was then governor of Medina, had led the people in the midday prayer, to visit Amr ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talha, who was ill. We did not even sit down; we only inquired after him standing. He said: Then we left and entered upon Anas ibn Malik in his house, which was next to the house of Abu Talha. He said: When we sat down, the maidservant came to him and said, 'The prayer, O Abu Hamza.' We said, 'Which prayer, may God have mercy on you?' He said, 'The Asr.' We said, 'We have only just prayed the midday prayer.' He said, 'You have neglected the prayer until you forgot it' - or he said, 'you were made to forget it until you neglected it. I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "I was sent, and the Hour, like these two,"' and he stretched out his index and middle fingers. Ibrahim ibn Abi al-Abbas told us: Abu Uways told us, from al-Zuhri, from his brother Abdullah ibn Muslim, that he heard Anas ibn Malik say that a man asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about al-Kawthar, and he mentioned it, except that he said, 'Those who eat of it are even more well-fed than it.' Ibrahim told us: Abu Uways told us, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Muslim, the nephew of al-Zuhri, from his father, from Anas ibn Malik, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, concerning al-Kawthar, exactly the same as al-Zuhri's hadith.
