حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ وَحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَا أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ قَوْمًا ذَكَرُوا عِنْدَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْحَوْضَ فَأَنْكَرَهُ وَقَالَ مَا الْحَوْضُ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ لَا جَرَمَ وَاللَّهِ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ فَأَتَاهُ فَقَالَ ذَكَرْتُمْ الْحَوْضَ فَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ هَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُهُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ يَقُولُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ كَذَا وَكَذَا مَرَّةً إِنَّ مَا بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ كَمَا بَيْنَ أَيْلَةَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ أَوْ بَيْنَ صَنْعَاءَ وَمَكَّةَ وَإِنَّ آنِيَتَهُ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ قَالَ حَسَنٌ وَإِنَّ آنِيَتَهُ لَأَكْثَرُ مِنْ عَدَدِ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ ذُكِرَ الْحَوْضُ عِنْدَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ بِهِ وَلَأَفْعَلَنَّ.
English Translation
Yunus and Hasan ibn Musa told us, they said: Hammad ibn Salamah informed us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from al-Hasan, from Anas, that some people mentioned the Basin in the presence of ‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad, and he denied it, saying, "What is the Basin?" This reached Anas ibn Malik, and he said, "By Allah, there is no doubt, I shall surely do so." So he went to him and said, "You mentioned the Basin." ‘Ubaydullah said, "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mention it?" He said, "Yes, he said - more times than such and such - that the distance between its two sides is like the distance between Aylah and Mecca," or "between San’a and Mecca, and its vessels are more numerous than the stars of the sky." Hasan said: "its vessels are indeed more numerous than the number of the stars of the sky." ‘Affan told us, Hammad told us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from al-Hasan, from Anas ibn Malik, that the Basin was mentioned in the presence of ‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad, and he related something similar, except that he said, "By Allah, I shall surely do so to him, I shall surely do so."
