English Translation
Yunus told us, Hammad - meaning Ibn Zayd - told us, from Thabit, from Anas, who said: "I was serving as cup-bearer for the people on the day wine was forbidden." He said: Abu Talha had some of his companions gathered with him, when a man came and said, "Behold, wine has been forbidden!" Abu Talha said to me, "Go out and see." He said: So I went out and looked, and I heard a caller calling out, "Behold, wine has been forbidden!" He said: So I informed him. He said, "Go and pour it out." He said: So I went and poured it out. He said: Some of them said, "Suhayl ibn Bayda has been killed, and it is in his stomach." He said: So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed, "There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have eaten," to the end of the verse. He said: Their wine at that time was made from unripe and ripe dates fermented together.
