حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ثَابِتًا الْبُنَانِيَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَا يَتَمَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ الْمَوْتَ مِنْ ضُرٍّ أَصَابَهُ فَإِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَلْيَقُلْ اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتْ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي وَتَوَفَّنِي مَا كَانَتْ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ زَيْدٍ وَعَبْدَ الْعَزِيزِ بْنَ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَا سَمِعْنَا أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ بِمِثْلِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ مِنْ ضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ.
English Translation
Rawh told us, Shu'bah told us, who said: I heard Thabit al-Bunani say: I heard Anas ibn Malik narrate from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: None of you should wish for death because of harm that has befallen him; but if he must do so, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is good for me, and take my life when death is good for me. Rawh told us, Shu'bah told us, who said: I heard Ali ibn Zayd and Abd al-Aziz ibn Suhayb say: We heard Anas ibn Malik narrate the like of it, except that he said: because of harm that has come upon him.
