حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاصَلَ فِي آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ فَوَاصَلَ نَاسٌ مِنْ النَّاسِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَوْ مُدَّ لَنَا الشَّهْرُ لَوَاصَلْتُ وِصَالًا يَدَعُ الْمُتَعَمِّقُونَ تَعَمُّقَهُمْ إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي.
English Translation
Yazid told us: Humayd told us, from Thabit, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, practiced continuous fasting at the end of the month, so some people also practiced it. This reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, "If the month had been extended for us, I would have continued to fast without breaking — so that those who go to excess would abandon their excess. I am not like you: I spend the night with my Lord feeding me and giving me drink."
