حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَرْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي عَلَى قَوْمٍ تُقْرَضُ شِفَاهُهُمْ بِمَقَارِيضَ مِنْ نَارٍ قُلْتُ مَا هَؤُلَاءِ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ خُطَبَاءُ أُمَّتِكَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا كَانُوا يَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَيَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ.
English Translation
Waki' told us, Hammad ibn Salamah told us, from Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by a people whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire. I said, 'Who are these?' He said, 'These are the preachers of your community from the people of this world, who used to command people to righteousness while forgetting themselves, though they recite the Book — do they not understand?'"
