حَدَّثَنَا هَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَارِجَةَ حَدَّثَنَا رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ مَثَلَ الْعُلَمَاءِ فِي الْأَرْضِ كَمَثَلِ النُّجُومِ فِي السَّمَاءِ يُهْتَدَى بِهَا فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ فَإِذَا انْطَمَسَتْ النُّجُومُ أَوْشَكَ أَنْ تَضِلَّ الْهُدَاةُ.
English Translation
Haytham ibn Kharijah told us, Rishdin ibn Sa'd told us, from Abdullah ibn al-Walid, from Abu Hafs, who narrated to him that he heard Anas ibn Malik say: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Indeed the example of the scholars on earth is like the example of the stars in the sky, by which one finds guidance in the darkness of land and sea; so when the stars are obscured, the guided ones are about to go astray."
