حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ وَاصَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آخِرَ الشَّهْرِ وَوَاصَلَ نَاسٌ مِنْ النَّاسِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَوْ مُدَّ لَنَا الشَّهْرُ لَوَاصَلْتُ وِصَالًا يَدَعُ الْمُتَعَمِّقُونَ تَعَمُّقَهُمْ إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَظَلُّ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي.
English Translation
Anas said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) fasted continuously at the end of the month, and some people also fasted continuously. When this reached the Prophet, he said: "Had the month been extended for us, I would have continued fasting until those who go to extremes would abandon their extremism. I am not like you; my Lord feeds me and gives me drink."
