حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ وَقَعَتْ فِي سَهْمِ دِحْيَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ وَقَعَتْ فِي سَهْمِ دِحْيَةَ جَارِيَةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ فَاشْتَرَاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِسَبْعَةِ أَرْؤُسٍ فَجَعَلَهَا عِنْدَ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ حَتَّى تَهَيَّأَ وَتَعْتَدَّ فِيمَا يَعْلَمُ حَمَّادٌ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ وَاللَّهِ مَا نَدْرِي أَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ تَسَرَّاهَا فَلَمَّا حَمَلَهَا سَتَرَهَا وَأَرْدَفَهَا خَلْفَهُ فَعَرَفَ النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ تَزَوَّجَهَا فَلَمَّا دَنَا مِنْ الْمَدِينَةِ أَوْضَعَ النَّاسُ وَأَوْضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَذَلِكَ كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ فَعَثَرَتْ النَّاقَةُ فَخَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَخَرَّتْ مَعَهُ وَأَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْظُرْنَ فَقُلْنَ أَبْعَدَ اللَّهُ الْيَهُودِيَّةَ وَفَعَلَ بِهَا وَفَعَلَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَتَرَهَا وَأَرْدَفَهَا خَلْفَهُ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ صَارَتْ صَفِيَّةُ لِدِحْيَةَ فِي قَسْمِهِ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ حَتَّى إِذَا جَعَلَهَا فِي ظَهْرِهِ نَزَلَ ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ عَلَيْهَا الْقُبَّةَ.
English Translation
Anas ibn Malik reported that Safiyyah fell to the lot of Dihyah al-Kalbi. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, a beautiful girl has fallen to the lot of Dihyah." So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) purchased her for seven slaves and placed her with Umm Sulaim to prepare herself. The people said: "By Allah, we do not know whether the Messenger of Allah married her or took her as a concubine." When he placed her on the mount, he veiled her and rode her behind him, and the people knew he had married her. When they drew near to Madinah, the people sped up and the Messenger of Allah sped up - as was their custom. The camel stumbled and the Messenger of Allah fell and she fell with him. The wives of the Prophet were watching and said: "May Allah distance the Jewess" and such words. The Messenger of Allah stood up, veiled her and rode her behind him.
