حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ الْحَبَشِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْغَافِرِ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ جَاءَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِتَمْرٍ فَقَالَ مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكَ هَذَا فَقَالَ كَانَ عِنْدِي تَمْرٌ رَدِيءٌ فَبِعْتُهُ بِهَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوَّهْ عَيْنُ الرِّبَا عَيْنُ الرِّبَا فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهُ وَلَكِنْ بِعْ تَمْرَكَ بِمَا شِئْتَ ثُمَّ اشْتَرِ بِهِ مَا بَدَا لَكَ.
English Translation
Hisham b. Sa'id narrated to us, saying: Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sallam al-Habashi narrated to us, saying: I heard Yahya b. Abi Kathir say: I heard Uqbah b. Abd al-Ghafir say: I heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri say: Bilal came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with dates, and he said, "Where did you get these?" He said, "I had inferior dates, and I sold them for these." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Oh! That is the very essence of usury, the very essence of usury! Do not go near it. Rather, sell your dates for whatever price you wish, then buy with it whatever you want."
