English Translation
Isma'il narrated to us, Sa'id informed us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id, who said: No sooner had Khaybar been conquered than we, the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, fell upon that plant, garlic, and we ate heavily of it, being hungry people. Then we went to the mosque, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, noticed the smell, and said: "Whoever has eaten any of this foul plant, let him not come near us in the mosque." Some people said, "It is forbidden, it is forbidden!" This reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: "O people, it is not for me to forbid what Allah has made lawful, but it is a plant whose smell I dislike."
