حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ الْعَوْفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلَكَ الْمُثْرُونَ قَالُوا إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ هَلَكَ الْمُثْرُونَ قَالُوا إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ هَلَكَ الْمُثْرُونَ قَالُوا إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ حَتَّى خِفْنَا أَنْ يَكُونَ قَدْ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَقَلِيلٌ مَا هُمْ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd told us: al-A'mash told us, from 'Atiyyah al-'Awfi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The wealthy are ruined." They said: "Except one who says..." "The wealthy are ruined." They said: "Except one who says..." "The wealthy are ruined." They said: "Except one who says..." — until we feared it had become inevitable — so he said: "Except one who gives like this, and like this, and like this" — and few are they.
