حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ مَوْلَى النَّصْرِيِّينَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّمَا مُحَمَّدٌ بَشَرٌ يَغْضَبُ كَمَا يَغْضَبُ الْبَشَرُ وَإِنِّي قَدْ اتَّخَذْتُ عِنْدَكَ عَهْدًا لَنْ تُخْلِفَنِيهِ فَأَيُّمَا مُؤْمِنٍ آذَيْتُهُ أَوْ شَتَمْتُهُ أَوْ جَلَدْتُهُ فَاجْعَلْهَا لَهُ كَفَّارَةً وَقُرْبَةً تُقَرِّبُهُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
English Translation
Hajjaj told us: Layth told us: Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id told me, from Salim, the freed slave of the Nasriyyun, who said: I heard Abu Hurayrah say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "O Allah, Muhammad is only a human being who becomes angry as a human being becomes angry, and I have taken a covenant with You which You will never fail to keep: so any believer whom I have hurt, or reviled, or struck, make that for him an expiation and a means of drawing him near to You on the Day of Resurrection."
