774/1006- عن الطفيل بن أبي بن كعب: أنه كان يأتي عبد الله بن عمر، فيغدو معه إلى السوق، قال: فإذا غدونا إلى السوق لم يمرّ عبد الله بن عمر على سقّاط(1)، ولا صاحب بيعة، ولا مسكين، ولا أحدٍ غلا يسلم عليه قال الطفيل: فجئت عبد الله بن عمر يوماً. فاستتبعني إلى السوق. فقلت: ما تصنع بالسوق؟ وأنت لا تقف على البيع، ولا تسأل عن السلع، ولا تسوم بها، ولا تجلس في مجالس السوق، فاجلس بنا ها هنا نتحدث. فقال لي عبد الله:"يا أبا بطن! – وكان الطفيل ذا بطن- إنما نغدو من أجل السلام[نسلم](2)على من لقينا".
English Translation
Al-Tufayl ibn Ubayy ibn Ka'b reported: He used to visit Abdullah ibn Umar and go with him to the market in the morning. He said: 'When we went to the market, Abdullah ibn Umar would not pass by any petty trader, merchant, poor person, or anyone without greeting them.' Al-Tufayl said: 'One day I came to Abdullah ibn Umar and he asked me to go with him to the market. I said: What will you do at the market? You do not stop at shops, ask about goods, bargain for them, or sit in the market gatherings. So sit here with us and let us talk.' He said: 'O Abu Batn (Father of the Belly)! — for al-Tufayl had a big belly — We only go to the market for the sake of the greeting — to greet whoever we meet.'
