765/990-(صحيح)عن ابن مسعود قال: كانوا يصلون خلف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال(1)القائل: السلام على الله، فلما قضى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلاته قال:" من القائل: السلام على الله؟ إن الله هو السلام، ولكن قولوا: التحيات لله والصلوات والطيبات، السلام عليك(2)أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته، السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين، أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأشهد أن محمداً عبده ورسوله". قال: وقد كانوا يتعلمونها كما يتعلم أحدكم السورة من القرآن.
English Translation
Ibn Mas'ud said: They used to pray behind the Prophet (peace be upon him), and one person said: 'Peace be upon Allah.' When the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: 'Who said: Peace be upon Allah? Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace). Rather say: "The greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."' He said: 'They used to learn it just as one of you learns a surah of the Quran.'
