حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَكْرَمُ؟ قَالَ: أَكْرَمُهُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ أَتْقَاهُمْ، قَالُوا: لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ، قَالَ: فَأَكْرَمُ النَّاسِ يُوسُفُ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللهِ، قَالُوا: لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ، قَالَ: فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَبِ تَسْأَلُونِي؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَخِيَارُكُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُكُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا.
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Hurayra said, "The Beloved Messenger of Allah was asked, 'Which people are the most generous?'' He replied, 'The most generous of them in the sight of Allah are those with the most taqwa.' They said, 'That is not what we are asking about.' He said, 'The most generous of people was Yusuf (upon him be peace), the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah, son of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah, who was the son of the Intimate Friend of Allah (Ibrahim (upon him be peace)).' They said, 'That is not what we are asking about.' He said, 'Are you asking about those of Arab origin?' 'Yes,' they replied. He said, 'The best of you in the Jahiliyya is the best of you in Islam when you have understanding from Allah)."
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے عرض کیا گیا: سب سے زیادہ بزرگ کون ہیں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: اللہ سے سب سے زیادہ ڈرنے والے۔ عرض کیا گیا: ہم یہ نہیں پوچھ رہے۔ ارشاد فرمایا: پھر یوسف نبی اللہ، ابن نبی اللہ، ابن نبی اللہ، ابن خلیل اللہ (حضرت یوسف بن یعقوب بن اسحاق بن ابراہیم علیہم السلام)۔ عرض کیا گیا: ہم یہ بھی نہیں پوچھ رہے۔ ارشاد فرمایا: تو پھر تم عرب کے قبائل کے بارے میں پوچھ رہے ہو۔ جو جاہلیت میں بہتر تھے وہ اسلام میں بھی بہتر ہیں بشرطیکہ انہیں دین کی سمجھ ہو۔
