Hadrat Abdullah ibn Zayd (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates: 'When the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) ordered a bell to be made so that it could be struck to gather people for prayer, a man appeared before me while I was sleeping, carrying a bell in his hand. I said: "O servant of Allah, will you sell this bell?" He asked: "What will you do with it?" I said: "We will use it to call people to prayer." He said: "Shall I not tell you of something better than that?" I said: "Indeed, do tell." He said: "You should say (for the Adhan): Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya ala al-Salah, Hayya ala al-Salah; Hayya ala al-Falah, Hayya ala al-Falah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illa Allah." Then he stepped back a short distance and said: "And when you establish the prayer (iqamah), say: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah; Hayya ala al-Salah; Hayya ala al-Falah; Qad qamat al-Salah, Qad qamat al-Salah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illa Allah."' When morning came, I went to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and informed him of what I had seen. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Indeed, it is a true vision, if Allah wills. Stand with Hadrat Bilal and teach him what you saw, and let him call the Adhan, for his voice is more resonant than yours.' I stood with Hadrat Bilal and kept teaching him, and he called the Adhan. Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him) heard this while in his house, came out dragging his cloak, and said: 'By the One Who sent you with the truth, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I too have seen the same as he saw.' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'All praise belongs to Allah.' Abu Dawud says: The narration of al-Zuhri from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab from Abdullah ibn Zayd is similar. Ibn Ishaq narrated from al-Zuhri with 'Allahu Akbar' four times. Ma'mar and Yunus narrated from al-Zuhri with only 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar' (twice), without repeating it.

حضرت عبداللہ بن زید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ناقوس بنانے کا حکم دیا تاکہ لوگوں کو نماز کے لیے بجایا جائے، تو میں سوتے میں تھا کہ ایک شخص میرے پاس آیا جس کے ہاتھ میں ناقوس تھا۔ میں نے کہا: اے اللہ کے بندے! کیا یہ ناقوس بیچو گے؟ اس نے پوچھا: تم اسے کیا کرو گے؟ میں نے کہا: اس سے نماز کے لیے بلائیں گے۔ اس نے کہا: کیا میں تمہیں اس سے بہتر چیز نہ بتاؤں؟ میں نے کہا: ضرور بتاؤ۔ اس نے کہا: (اذان میں) یوں کہو: «اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ، اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ» پھر وہ تھوڑا سا پیچھے ہٹا، پھر کہا: اور اقامت میں یوں کہو: «اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ، حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ، قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ» جب صبح ہوئی تو میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمتِ اقدس میں حاضر ہوا اور جو کچھ دیکھا تھا بیان کیا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: بے شک یہ سچا خواب ہے ان شاءاللہ! حضرت بلال کے ساتھ کھڑے ہو جاؤ اور جو دیکھا ہے وہ ان کو سکھاؤ، وہ اذان دیں کیونکہ ان کی آواز تم سے زیادہ بلند ہے۔ میں حضرت بلال کے ساتھ کھڑا ہوا اور اذان ان کو سکھاتا رہا اور وہ اذان دیتے رہے۔ یہ سن کر حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اپنے گھر سے اپنی چادر گھسیٹتے ہوئے نکلے اور عرض کیا: اس ذاتِ پاک کی قسم جس نے آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو حق کے ساتھ مبعوث فرمایا! یا رسول اللہ! میں نے بھی وہی دیکھا جو انہوں نے دیکھا ہے۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: سب تعریف اللہ کے لیے ہے۔ حضرت ابوداؤد فرماتے ہیں: زہری کی روایت سعید بن مسیب سے عبداللہ بن زید سے ایسے ہی ہے۔ ابنِ اسحاق نے زہری سے «اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ» چار بار ذکر کیا ہے۔ جبکہ معمر اور یونس نے زہری سے صرف «اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ» (دو بار) ذکر کیا ہے، دوہرایا نہیں۔
