Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَنْ أَعْتَكِفَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ لَيْلَةً . فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم : " أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ " .
English Translation
It is narrated by Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him) that he submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I made a vow during the pre-Islamic era to observe i'tikaf for one night in the Sacred Mosque. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Fulfill your vow.
Urdu Translation
حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ انہوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میں نے جاہلیت میں نذر مانی تھی کہ مسجد حرام میں ایک رات اعتکاف کروں گا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اپنی نذر پوری کرو۔
