حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ، وَسَلَمَةُ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ إِنِّي إِنْ لاَ أَسْتَخْلِفْ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَمْ يَسْتَخْلِفْ وَإِنْ أَسْتَخْلِفْ فَإِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ قَدِ اسْتَخْلَفَ . قَالَ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ إِلاَّ أَنْ ذَكَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ فَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ لاَ يَعْدِلُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَحَدًا وَأَنَّهُ غَيْرُ مُسْتَخْلِفٍ .
English Translation
Hadrat Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates that Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "If I do not appoint a successor, then (it is permissible because) the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) did not appoint a successor. And if I do appoint a successor, then (it is also permissible because) Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) appointed a successor." Hadrat Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) says: By Allah, he mentioned none but the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and Hadrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him), so I understood that he would not equate anyone with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and that he would not appoint a successor.
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: اگر میں کسی کو خلیفہ مقرر نہ کروں تو (بھی جائز ہے کیونکہ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے کسی کو خلیفہ مقرر نہیں فرمایا تھا، اور اگر میں خلیفہ مقرر کر دوں تو (بھی جائز ہے کیونکہ) حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے خلیفہ مقرر فرمایا تھا۔ حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں: اللہ کی قسم! انہوں نے صرف رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اور حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا ذکر فرمایا تو میں سمجھ گیا کہ وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے برابر کسی کو نہ ٹھہرائیں گے اور خلیفہ نامزد نہ کریں گے۔
