حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى، يَقُولُ سِرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ فَلَمَّا غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَالَ " يَا بِلاَلُ انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لَنَا " . قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ أَمْسَيْتَ . قَالَ " انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لَنَا " . قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَلَيْكَ نَهَارًا . قَالَ " انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لَنَا " . فَنَزَلَ فَجَدَحَ فَشَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثُمَّ قَالَ " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ اللَّيْلَ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ هَا هُنَا فَقَدْ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ " . وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ .
English Translation
Hadrat Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: We were travelling with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) while he was fasting. When the sun set, he stated: "O Hadrat Bilal! Dismount and prepare the barley drink for us." Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! If only you would wait a little longer. He stated: "Dismount and prepare the barley drink for us." Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! There is still daylight remaining. He stated: "Dismount and prepare the barley drink for us." So he dismounted and prepared the barley drink, and the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) drank it. Then he stated: "When you see that the night has come from this direction, the fasting person has broken his fast" — and he pointed with his blessed finger toward the east.
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن ابی اوفیٰ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: ہم رسولِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ سفر میں تھے اور آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم روزے سے تھے۔ جب سورج غروب ہوا تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "اے حضرت بلال! اُترو اور ہمارے لیے ستّو گھولو۔" حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ابھی تھوڑا اور انتظار فرما لیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "اُترو اور ہمارے لیے ستّو گھولو۔" حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ابھی دن باقی ہے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "اُترو اور ہمارے لیے ستّو گھولو۔" پس وہ اُترے اور ستّو گھولا، رسولِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے نوش فرمایا، پھر ارشاد فرمایا: "جب تم دیکھو کہ رات اِدھر سے آ گئی ہے تو روزے دار نے افطار کر لیا" — اور آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مشرق کی طرف انگلی سے اشارہ فرمایا۔
