حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلاَنُ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ { وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ } قَالَ كَبُرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ - رضى الله عنه أَنَا أُفَرِّجُ عَنْكُمْ . فَانْطَلَقَ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ كَبُرَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِكَ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَفْرِضِ الزَّكَاةَ إِلاَّ لِيُطَيِّبَ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ أَمْوَالِكُمْ وَإِنَّمَا فَرَضَ الْمَوَارِيثَ لِتَكُونَ لِمَنْ بَعْدَكُمْ " . فَكَبَّرَ عُمَرُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ " أَلاَ أُخْبِرُكَ بِخَيْرِ مَا يَكْنِزُ الْمَرْءُ الْمَرْأَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا سَرَّتْهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرَهَا أَطَاعَتْهُ وَإِذَا غَابَ عَنْهَا حَفِظَتْهُ " .
English Translation
Hadrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates: 'When this noble verse was revealed -- "And those who hoard gold and silver (and do not spend them in the way of Allah)" -- it weighed heavily upon the Muslims. Hadrat Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "I shall relieve you of this concern." So he went to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and submitted: "O the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah, this verse has weighed heavily upon your Companions." The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Verily, Allah has made zakat obligatory only to purify your remaining wealth, and He has ordained inheritance only so that it may reach those who come after you." Upon hearing this, Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) exclaimed: Allahu Akbar! Then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated to him: "Shall I not inform you of the best treasure a man can hoard? It is a righteous wife: when he looks at her, she delights him; when he commands her, she obeys him; and when he is absent from her, she safeguards (his honour and his wealth)."'
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان فرماتے ہیں: جب یہ آیتِ کریمہ «وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ» (اور جو لوگ سونا اور چاندی جمع کرتے ہیں) نازل ہوئی تو یہ بات مسلمانوں پر بہت گراں گزری۔ حضرت عمر فاروق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: میں تمہاری یہ پریشانی دور کرتا ہوں۔ چنانچہ وہ حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بارگاہ میں حاضر ہوئے اور عرض کیا: یا نبی اللہ! آپ کے صحابہ پر یہ آیت بہت بھاری پڑی ہے۔ حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ نے زکاۃ صرف اس لیے فرض فرمائی ہے تاکہ تمہارا بقیہ مال پاک و پاکیزہ ہو جائے، اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے میراث صرف اس لیے مقرر فرمائی ہے تاکہ تمہارے بعد والوں کو (مال) پہنچے۔ یہ سن کر حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے تکبیر کہی۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان سے ارشاد فرمایا: کیا میں تمہیں وہ بہترین خزانہ نہ بتاؤں جو آدمی جمع کرتا ہے؟ وہ نیک بیوی ہے: جب شوہر اس کی طرف دیکھے تو اسے خوش کر دے، جب حکم دے تو اطاعت کرے، اور جب شوہر (سفر وغیرہ پر) غائب ہو تو اپنی عصمت اور اس کے مال کی حفاظت کرے۔
