Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ، أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهُمْ يَتَصَعَّدُونَ فِي ثَنِيَّةٍ فَجَعَلَ رَجُلٌ كُلَّمَا عَلاَ الثَّنِيَّةَ نَادَى لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ . فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّكُمْ لاَ تُنَادُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلاَ غَائِبًا " . ثُمَّ قَالَ " يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ " . فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ .
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that they were with the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and were climbing a mountain pass. A man, whenever he ascended the pass, would call out: 'La ilaha illallahu wallahu Akbar' (There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest). The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent.' Then he said: 'O Abdullah ibn Qays!' — then he mentioned the same meaning.
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ وہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھے اور ایک گھاٹی پر چڑھ رہے تھے — ایک شخص جب بھی گھاٹی پر چڑھتا پکارتا: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ — نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم کسی بہرے اور غائب کو نہیں پکار رہے — پھر فرمایا: اے عبداللہ بن قیس! — پھر اسی مضمون کی حدیث بیان کی۔
