حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ صَلاَةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ بِأُصْبُعَيْهِ هَكَذَا مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالْوِتْرُ رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ .
English Translation
Hadrat Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates that a Bedouin asked the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) about the night prayer. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) indicated with his two fingers and said: 'It is in pairs of two, and the Witr is one rak'ah at the end of the night.'

حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک اعرابی نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے رات کی نماز کے بارے میں پوچھا — آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنی دو انگلیوں سے اشارہ فرماتے ہوئے فرمایا: دو دو (رکعت) ہے — اور وتر رات کے آخری حصے میں ایک رکعت ہے۔
