Talq ibn Ali said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when Mukhtar ibn Abd al-Qays came and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, what do you think about a drink we make from our fruits?' The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned away from him until he asked him three times. Then he stood and led us in prayer. When he finished the prayer, he said: 'Who is the one asking about intoxicants? You ask me — do not drink it and do not give it to your Muslim brother to drink. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, no man ever drank it seeking intoxication except that Allah will make him drink the wine of Hell on the Day of Resurrection.'
