Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8214 حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ عَنِ الطُّفَيْلِ بْنِ سَخْبَرَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ قَالَا ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ عَنِ الطُّفَيْلِ بْنِ سَخْبَرَةَ أَخِي عَائِشَةَ لِأُمِّهَا قَالَ رَأَيْتُ فِيمَا يَرَى النَّائِمُ كَأَنِّي مَرَرْتُ بِرَهْطٍ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَقُلْتُ مَنْ أَنْتُمْ؟ فَقَالُوا نَحْنُ الْيَهُودُ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّكُمْ لَأَنْتُمِ الْقَوْمُ لَوْلَا أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللهِ؟ قَالُوا وَأَنْتُمِ الْقَوْمُ لَوْلَا أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَشَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ ثُمَّ مَرَرْتُ بِرَهْطٍ مِنَ النَّصَارَى فَقُلْتُ إِنَّكُمْ لَأَنْتُمِ الْقَوْمُ لَوْلَا أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللهِ فَقَالُوا وَأَنْتُمِ الْقَوْمُ لَوْلَا أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَشَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ أَخْبرْتُ بِهَا نَاسًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِهَا فَقَالَ «هَلْ أَخْبَرْتَ بِهَا أَحَدًا؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ قَامَ خَطِيبًا فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ طُفَيْلًا رَأَى رُؤْيَا أَخْبَرَ بِهَا مَنْ أَخْبَرَ مِنْكُمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَقُولُونَ كَلِمَةً كَانَ يَمْنَعُنِي الْحَيَاءُ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَلَا تَقُولُوا مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَشَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ»

Al-Tufayl ibn Sakhbara, the half-brother of Aisha (the wife of the Prophet, peace be upon him, from her mother's side), said: I saw in a dream that I passed by a group of Jews and asked: 'Who are you?' They said: 'We are the Jews.' I said: 'You would be fine people if only you did not say Uzayr is the son of Allah.' They said: 'And you would be fine people if only you did not say: What Allah wills and what Muhammad wills.' Then I passed by a group of Christians and said: 'You would be fine people if only you did not say the Messiah is the son of Allah.' They said: 'And you would be fine people if only you did not say: What Allah wills and what Muhammad wills.' When I woke up, I told some people, then I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and told him. He said: 'Did you tell anyone about it?' I said: 'Yes.' After the Zuhr prayer, he stood as a preacher and praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: 'Tufayl had a dream and told some of you about it. You used to say a phrase that modesty had prevented me from forbidding you. Do not say: What Allah wills and what Muhammad wills.'
