Abu Umamah said: "We went out with the Prophet (peace be upon him) on one of his expeditions. A man passed by a cave that had some water in it, and his soul was tempted to stay in that cave, living on its water and eating from the plants around it, withdrawing from the world. Then he said: 'If I went to the Prophet of Allah and mentioned this to him - if he permits me, I will do it; otherwise, I will not.' So he came to him and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, I passed by a cave with enough water and plants to sustain me, and my soul was tempted to stay there and withdraw from the world.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'I was not sent with Judaism or Christianity, but I was sent with the upright, easy faith (hanifiyyah samhah). By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, a morning or evening spent in the cause of Allah is better than the world and everything in it, and standing in the battle line is better than sixty years of prayer.'"
