Abu Umamah reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out on one of his expeditions and passed by some Arab households. He sent a message to them asking if they had water for the ablution of the Messenger of Allah. They said, 'We have no water except in a tanned skin of a dead animal that we tanned with milk.' He sent word to them: 'Its tanning purifies it.' So he was brought water from it, performed ablution, and prayed.
