Sahl ibn Sa'd said: The people differed about what the wound of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was treated with on the Day of Uhud. They asked Sahl, who was among the last of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) remaining in Madinah. He said: "No one among the Muslims remains who knows it better than I do. Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) was washing the blood from the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was bringing water in his shield. A straw mat was taken, burned, and its (ashes) were packed into the wound."
