Zayd ibn Arqam said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on a journey in which the people suffered hardship. 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy said to his companions: "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse from around him." And he said: "If we return to Madinah, the mightier shall expel the lowlier from it." So I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and informed him. He sent for 'Abdullah, who swore an oath and said: "He has lied, O Messenger of Allah." I felt great distress from what they said, until Allah revealed my vindication in the Surah "When the hypocrites come to you." The Prophet (peace be upon him) called them so that he might seek forgiveness for them, but they turned their heads away. And regarding His saying "As if they are pieces of wood propped up" (63:4), he said: "They were the most handsome of men."
