أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ قَالَ «كُنْتُ أَنْشُدُهُ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَلَا أَعْرِفُ أَصْحَابَهُ حَتَّى جَاءَ رَجُلٌ بَعِيدٌ مَا بَيْنَ الْمَنَاكِبِ أَصْلَعُ» فَقِيلَ لِي اسْكُتِ اسْكُتْ فَقُلْتُ «وَاثُكْلَاهُ مِنْ هَذَا الَّذِي أَسْكُتُ لَهُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ؟» فَقِيلَ لِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ

I was reciting poetry to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and did not recognize his companions, until a bald man with broad shoulders came. I was told: 'Be quiet, be quiet!' I said: 'Woe to me! Who is this that I must be silent for in the presence of the Prophet (peace be upon him)?' They said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab.'
