Khuzaymah ibn Juzayy said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the creatures of the earth. He said: "Ask about whatever you wish." I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about the lizard. He said: "I do not eat it, nor do I forbid it. I was told that a nation from the Children of Israel was transformed into creatures on the earth." I said: I will not leave anything you have not forbidden without eating it. I said: What about the rabbit? He said: "I do not eat it, nor do I forbid it. I was told that it menstruates." I said: I will not leave anything you have not forbidden without eating it. I said: What about the fox? He said: "Does anyone eat the fox?" I said: What about the hyena? He said: "Does anyone eat the hyena?" I said: What about the wolf? He said: "Does anyone with any good in him eat the wolf?"
