Sa'd said: My mother swore that she would not eat or drink until I abandoned my religion. She said: 'You claim that Allah has commanded you to be dutiful to your parents, and I am your mother, and I command you to do this.' She went without food for three days until she fainted from exhaustion. A son of hers named Umarah gave her water. She began to curse me. Then Allah revealed: 'And if they strive against you to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with kindness.'
