الترجمة الإنجليزية
Ibn Abbas narrated: While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was with Jibril (peace be upon him) conversing, the horizon of the sky split open. Jibril began to descend toward the earth and tremble. Then an angel appeared before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: 'O Muhammad, indeed Allah commands you to choose between being a Prophet-Servant or a King-Prophet.' Jibril gestured to me with his hand to be humble. I knew he was sincere in his advice, so I said: 'A Servant-Prophet.' The angel ascended to the sky. I said: 'O Jibril, I had wanted to ask you about this, but I saw your state and it distracted me from asking. Who is this, O Jibril?' He said: 'This is Israfil. Allah created him on the day He created him, standing before Him with his feet together, never raising his gaze. Between him and the Lord are seventy lights, any one of which he would nearly burn up if he came close to it. Before him is a tablet. When Allah the Almighty decrees something in the heavens or the earth, the revelation rises and strikes his forehead. He looks, and if it is my task, He commands me with it. If it is Mikail's task, He commands him. If it is the task of the Angel of Death, He commands him.' I said: 'O Jibril, what are you assigned to?' He said: 'The wind and the armies.' I said: 'What is Mikail assigned to?' He said: 'Vegetation and rain.' I said: 'What is the Angel of Death assigned to?' He said: 'Seizing the souls. I did not think he descended except for the establishment of the Hour. What you saw from me was only fear of the Hour.'
