The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), when midday came, would go out to some of the gardens of Madinah where water for purification had been prepared for him. If he had a need, he would relieve it; otherwise, he would perform purification. When the sun declined from the middle of the sky by about the length of a sandal strap, he would stand and pray four rak'ahs without sitting for tashahhud between them, giving salam at the end of the four. Then he would go to the mosque. Ibn Abbas asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is this prayer that you pray and we do not pray?' He said: 'Whoever from my Ummah prays them has revived his night — an hour in which the gates of heaven are opened and supplications are answered.'
