Narrated 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him): We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the month of Ramadan. When the sun set, he (peace be upon him) said: "O so-and-so, dismount and mix some sawiq (barley drink) for us." He said: O Messenger of Allah, it is still daytime (this Companion supposed that the redness which remains after sunset departs only when the night comes — though this is incorrect). He (peace be upon him) said again: "Dismount (from the camel) and mix some sawiq for us." So he dismounted, mixed the sawiq, and brought it to him (peace be upon him), and he (peace be upon him) drank it. Then he pointed with his hand and said: "When the sun sets on this side (that is, in the west) and the night comes from that side (that is, from the east), then the fasting person should break his fast."

سیدنا عبداللہ بن ابی اوفی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ رمضان کے مہینے میں سفر میں تھے۔ پھر جب آفتاب غروب ہوا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اے فلاں! اترو اور ہمارے لئے ستو گھول دو۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! ابھی تو دن ہے (یعنی ان صحابی کو یہ خیال ہوا کہ جب غروب کے بعد جو سرخی ہے وہ جاتی ہے جب رات آتی ہے حالانکہ یہ غلط ہے) آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے پھر فرمایا کہ اترو (یعنی اونٹ پر سے) اور ہمارے لئے ستو گھولو۔ پھر وہ اترے اور ستو گھول کر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس لائے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے نوش فرمائے اور پھر اپنے ہاتھ سے اشارہ فرمایا کہ جب سورج اس طرف غروب ہو جائے (یعنی مغرب میں) اور اس طرف (یعنی مشرق سے) رات آ جائے تو روزہ دار کو روزہ کھول لینا چاہئے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 592]
