Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to encourage praying the Tarawih in Ramadan, without commanding it as a strict obligation, and he would say: "Whoever prays in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his former sins will be forgiven." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed away, and the matter remained thus. Then during the caliphate of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) the same practice continued. Then at the beginning of the caliphate of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) the same practice continued (i.e., whoever wished would pray at night). [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 398]
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمرمضان میں تراویح پڑھنے کی ترغیب دیتے تھے تاکیداً حکم نہیں دیتے تھے اور فرماتے: جو رمضان میں ایمان کے ساتھ اور ثواب حاصل کرنے کے لئے نماز پڑھے تو اس کے اگلے گناہ بخشے جائیں گے پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے انتقال فرمایا اور معاملہ اسی طرح تھا پھر سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کی خلافت میں بھی یہی طریقہ رہا۔ پھر سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کی شروع خلافت میں بھی یہی طریقہ رہا (یعنی جس کا دل چاہتا رات کو نماز پڑھتا)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 398]
