Narrated Anas bin Sirin (may Allah be pleased with him): I asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), "Tell me about the two rak'ahs before the morning prayer — should I make a long recitation in them?" Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs at a time at night and pray one rak'ah as Witr." (Ibn Sirin) says: I said, "That is not what I am asking." Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You are a fat man (i.e., of dull wit, for you interrupted in the middle of the speech). Will you not give me the chance to relate the (complete) hadith? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs at a time at night and pray one Witr, and he would pray the two rak'ahs before the obligatory morning prayer at such a time that the iqamah would be (about to sound) in his ears (i.e., he prayed them at the time of the iqamah, and it is evident that the prayer at that time would be very brief)." سیدنا انس بن سیرین رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا کہ مجھے صبح کی نماز سے پہلے کی دو رکعتوں کے بارے میں بتلائیے، کیا میں ان میں طویل قرآت کروں؟ سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمرات کو دو دو رکعت پڑھا کرتے تھے اور وتر ایک رکعت پڑھتے تھے۔ (ابن سیرین) کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے کہا کہ میں یہ نہیں پوچھتا۔ سیدنا عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ تم موٹے آدمی ہو (یعنی موٹی عقل والے ہو کہ بات کے درمیان ہی میں بول اٹھے) کیا تم مجھے (پوری) حدیث بیان کرنے کی فرصت نہیں دیتے؟ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمرات کو دو دو رکعت پڑھتے تھے، اور ایک وتر ادا کرتے تھے اور دو رکعت صبح کی فرض نماز سے پہلے ایسے وقت پڑھتے کہ تکبیر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے کان میں ہوتی (یعنی تکبیر کے وقت پڑھتے اور ظاہر ہے کہ اس وقت جو نماز ہو گی نہایت خفیف ہو گی)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 392]
