Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in the Zuhr or Asr prayer, and having prayed two rak'ahs he gave the salam. Then he came to a piece of wood that was fixed in the mosque toward the qiblah, and, leaning on it, stood in anger. At that time Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) were also present in the congregation. The two of them, out of awe, could not speak, and the hasty ones went out saying that the prayer had been shortened. Then a man whom they called Dhul-Yadayn (the one with two hands — although everyone has two hands, but his hands were long, so this name was given to him) stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, has the prayer been shortened, or did you forget?" On hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked to his right and left and said, "What does Dhul-Yadayn say?" The people said, "O Messenger of Allah, he speaks the truth; you prayed only two rak'ahs." On hearing this, he prayed two more rak'ahs and gave the salam. Then he said the takbir and prostrated, then said the takbir and raised his head, then said the takbir and prostrated, then said the takbir and raised his head. الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہمیں ظہر یا عصر کی نماز پڑھائی اور دو رکعتیں پڑھ کر سلام پھیر دیا۔ پھر ایک لکڑی کے پاس آئے جو مسجد میں قبلہ کی طرف لگی ہوئی تھی اور اس پر ٹیک لگا کر غصہ میں کھڑے ہو گئے اس وقت جماعت میں سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ اور سیدنا عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ بھی موجود تھے۔ وہ دونوں ڈر کی وجہ سے بات نہ کر سکے اور جلدی والے لوگ یہ کہتے ہوئے نکلے کہ نماز کم ہو گئی۔ پھر ایک شخص جس کو ذوالیدین (دو ہاتھ والا، اگرچہ سب کے دو ہاتھ ہوتے ہیں لیکن اس کے ہاتھ لمبے تھے اس لئے یہ نام ہو گیا) کہتے تھے، کھڑا ہوا اور کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! کیا نماز گھٹ (کم) گئی یا آپ بھول گئے؟ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے یہ سن کر دائیں اور بائیں دیکھا اور فرمایا کہ ذوالیدین کیا کہتا ہے؟ لوگوں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلموہ سچ کہتا ہے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے دو ہی رکعتیں پڑھی ہیں۔ یہ سن کر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے دو رکعتیں اور پڑھیں اور سلام پھیرا پھر تکبیر کہی اور سجدہ کیا، پھر تکبیر کہی اور سر اٹھایا، پھر تکبیر کہی اور سجدہ کیا پھر تکبیر کہی اور سر اٹھایا۔ (محمد بن سیرین) نے کہا کہ مجھے عمران بن حصین نے یہ بیان کیا اور کہا کہ اور (آخر میں) سلام پھیرا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 352]
