It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that some men among the polytheists had committed many murders (while in the state of polytheism) and had committed much fornication. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: What you say and the way to which you call is good, and tell us whether there is an expiation for our past sins (if there is an expiation, then we will accept Islam). Then this verse was revealed: "And those who do not call upon another god besides Allah, and do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, and do not commit fornication; and whoever does that (i.e., murder, fornication, and polytheism) will meet the recompense, and his punishment will be multiplied on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace forever. But whoever repents, believes, and does righteous deeds, his evil deeds Allah will change into good deeds, and Allah is Merciful and Forgiving." (And Allah informed those people: Accept Islam, and all your former sins from the time of polytheism will be forgiven.) And this verse was revealed: "O My servants who have committed sins, do not despair of the mercy of Allah..." the entire verse.
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہمشرکوں میں سے چند لوگوں نے (شرک کی حالت میں) بہت خون کئے تھے اور بہت زنا کیا تھا۔ پھر وہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آئے اور عرض کیا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمجو فرماتے ہیں اور جس راہ کی طرف بلاتے ہیں، وہ اچھی ہے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمہمیں بتلائیں کہ کیا وہ ہمارے گزشتہ گناہوں کا کفارہ ہے؟ (اگر کفارہ ہے تو ہم اسلام لائیں گے) تب یہ آیت اتری کہ”جو لوگ اللہ کے ساتھ دوسرے معبودوں کو نہیں پکارتے اور جس جان کا مارنا اللہ تعالیٰ نے حرام کیا ہے اس کو نہیں مارتے، مگر کسی حق کے بدلے اور زنا نہیں کرتے اور جو کوئی ان کاموں کو (یعنی خون اور زنا اور شرک) کرے تو وہ بدلہ پائے گا اور اس کو قیامت کے دن دردناک عذاب ہو گا اور وہ ہمیشہ اسی عذاب میں ذلت سے رہے گا۔ لیکن جو کوئی ایمان لایا اور اس نے توبہ کی اور نیک کام کئے تو اس کی برائیاں مٹ کر نیکیاں ہو جائیں گی اور اللہ تعالیٰ مہربان ہے اور بخشنے والا ہے“(اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان لوگوں کو بتلا دیا کہ تم اسلام لاؤ تمہارے اگلے سب گناہ شرک کے زمانے کے معاف ہو جائیں گے) اور یہ آیت اتری کہ”اے میرے بندو! جنہوں نے گناہ کئے ہیں اللہ کی رحمت سے ناامید مت ہو ........“پوری آیت۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2156]
