Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I set out on a journey with Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he used to serve me. I said: Do not serve me (because you are older). He said: I saw the Ansar doing for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) such deeds that I swore an oath that whenever I am with any of the Ansar, I will serve him (that is, because of the treatment the Ansar gave to him (peace be upon him) and their protection of him from the enemy, and so on). And Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) was older than Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).

سیدنا انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں سیدنا جریر بن عبداللہ بجلی رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ سفر میں نکلا اور وہ میری خدمت کرتے تھے۔ میں نے کہا کہ تم میری خدمت مت کرو (کیونکہ تم بڑے ہو) انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے انصار کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ جو کام کرتے دیکھا ہے تو قسم کھائی ہے کہ جب کسی انصار کے ساتھ ہوں گا تو اس کی خدمت کروں گا (یعنی انصار نے آپ کے ساتھ جو سلوک کیا ہے اور دشمن سے حفاظت کی ہے وغیرہ) اور سیدنا جریر رضی اللہ عنہ سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے بڑے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1729]
