Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say, "I was asleep and I saw myself at a well over which was a bucket. I drew water from that bucket as much as Allah willed. Then Ibn Abi Quhafah, that is, al-Siddiq al-Akbar, took it and drew one or two buckets, and there was some weakness in his drawing—may Allah forgive him. Then that bucket became a large bucket, and Umar bin al-Khattab took it, and I never saw among people so powerful a chief drawing water as Umar. He drew water in such abundance that the people watered their camels and went off to their resting places." (The scholars have explained that this dream is a parable and glad tidings of the caliphate of Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, after him, and a foretelling of events.) سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سنا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے کہ میں سویا ہوا تھا، میں نے اپنے آپ کو ایک کنوئیں پر دیکھا کہ اس پر ڈول پڑا ہوا ہے۔ پس میں نے اس ڈول سے پانی کھینچا جتنا کہ اللہ نے چاہا۔ پھر اس کو ابوقحافہ کے بیٹے یعنی صدیق اکبر نے لیا اور ایک یا دو ڈول نکالے اور ان کے کھینچنے میں کمزوری تھی اللہ تعالیٰ ان کو بخشے۔ پھر وہ ڈول پل یعنی بڑا ڈول ہو گیا اور اس کو عمر بن خطاب نے لیا، تو میں نے لوگوں میں ایسا سردار شہ زور نہیں دیکھا جو عمر کی طرح پانی کھینچتا ہو۔ انہوں نے اس کثرت سے پانی نکالا کہ لوگ اپنے اپنے اونٹوں کو سیراب کر کے آرام کی جگہ لے گئے۔ (علماء نے بیان کیا ہے کہ اس خواب میں آپ کے بعد ابوبکر و عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کی خلافت کی تمثیل و بشارت اور حالات کی پیشن گوئی ہے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1631]
