Narrated Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him): I was sitting near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when a man said, "After being a Muslim, I do not care about any deed as long as I give water to the pilgrims." Another said, "After Islam, I do not care about any deed as long as I maintain the Sacred Mosque." A third said, "Jihad is more excellent than these things." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) rebuked them and said, "Do not raise your voices before the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on Friday, but after the Friday prayer I will ask him about the matter over which you have differed." Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "Have you made the giving of water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque equal to (the deeds of) one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the way of Allah?..." (at-Tawbah: 19) to the end of the verse. [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1077]
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا نعمان بن بشیر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے منبر کے پاس بیٹھا تھا کہ ایک شخص بولا: مجھے مسلمان ہونے پر کسی عمل کی پرواہ نہیں، جب میں حاجیوں کو پانی پلاؤں۔ دوسرا بولا کہ مجھے اسلام کے بعد کسی عمل کی کیا پرواہ ہے کہ میں مسجدالحرام کی مرمت کروں۔ تیسرا بولا کہ ان چیزوں سے تو جہاد افضل ہے۔ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کو ڈانٹا اور کہا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے منبر کے سامنے جمعہ کے دن اپنی آوازیں بلند نہ کرو لیکن میں جمعہ کی نماز کے بعد آپ اسے اس بات کو جس میں تم نے اختلاف کیا پوچھوں گا۔ تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری کہ”کیا تم نے حاجیوں کو پانی پلانا اور مسجدالحرام کو آباد کرنا اس شخص کے اعمال جیسا خیال کیا ہے جو اللہ اور روز آخرت پر ایمان رکھتا ہے اور اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد کرتا ہے؟ ....“(التوبہ: 19) آخر آیت تک۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1077]
