Husain bin 'Abdur-Rahman reported: I was with Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy upon him) when he said: Who amongst you saw a star shooting last night? I said: I did; then I said: I was not actually in prayer, but I was stung by a scorpion (and that is why I was awake). He said: Then what did you do? I said: I practised a charm. He said: What urged you to do that? I said: A hadith which al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy upon him) narrated to us. He asked: What was it? I said: He narrated to us from Buraida bin al-Husaib (may Allah be well pleased with him) who said: There is no charm except for the evil eye and the poisonous sting. Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: He who acts upon what he has heard has done well. Then he said: Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrated to us that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'The nations were presented before me. I saw a the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) with a small group, another the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) with one or two persons, and yet another the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) with no one at all. Then a great multitude was brought before me. I thought it was my Ummah, but I was told: This is Musa (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his people. But look towards the other horizon. I looked and there was also a great multitude. Then I was told: Look to the other side, and I looked and there was a vast multitude. I was told: This is your Ummah, and among them are seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning and without punishment.' Then he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) got up and went into his room, and the people started discussing who those seventy thousand might be. Some said: Perhaps they are the Companions of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Some said: Perhaps they are those who were born in Islam and never associated anything with Allah. They mentioned various possibilities. Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came out and stated: 'What were you discussing?' They told him. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'They are those who do not practise charms, do not cauterise, do not take omens, and they put their trust in their Lord.' 'Ukkasha bin Mihsan (may Allah be well pleased with him) stood up and submitted: Pray to Allah that He make me one of them. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'You are one of them.' Then another man stood up and submitted: Pray to Allah that He make me one of them. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: ''Ukkasha (may Allah be well pleased with him) has preceded you.'

ہشیم نے کہا: ہمیں حصین بن عبد الرحمن نے خبر دی، کہا کہ میں سعید بن جبیر رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ کے پاس موجود تھا، انہوں نے پوچھا: تم میں سے وہ ستارہ کس نے دیکھا تھا جو کل رات ٹوٹا تھا؟ میں نے کہا: میں نے، پھر میں نے کہا کہ میں نماز میں نہیں تھا بلکہ مجھے (کسی موذی جانور نے) ڈس لیا تھا۔ انہوں نے پوچھا: پھر تم نے کیا کیا؟ میں نے کہا: میں نے دم کروایا۔ انہوں نے کہا: تمہیں کس چیز نے اس پر آمادہ کیا؟ میں نے کہا: ایک حدیث جو ہمیں شعبی رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ نے سنائی۔ انہوں نے پوچھا: وہ کیا تھی؟ میں نے کہا: انہوں نے ہمیں بریدہ بن حصیب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی، وہ فرماتے تھے: دم صرف عین (نظر بد) اور ڈنگ مارنے والے جانور کے لیے ہے۔ سعید بن جبیر رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ نے فرمایا: جس نے سنی ہوئی بات پر عمل کیا اس نے اچھا کیا، پھر فرمایا: ہمیں حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے حدیث سنائی کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''میرے سامنے امتیں پیش کی گئیں، میں نے دیکھا کہ ایک نبی (علیہ السلام) کے ساتھ ایک چھوٹی سی جماعت ہے، کسی نبی (علیہ السلام) کے ساتھ ایک یا دو آدمی ہیں اور کسی نبی (علیہ السلام) کے ساتھ کوئی بھی نہیں۔ اتنے میں میرے سامنے ایک بہت بڑا ہجوم لایا گیا، میں نے سمجھا کہ یہ میری امت ہے، مجھے بتایا گیا: یہ موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) اور ان کی قوم ہے۔ لیکن (دوسری) افق کی طرف دیکھو۔ میں نے دیکھا تو وہاں بھی ایک بہت بڑا مجمع تھا، پھر مجھے بتایا گیا: دوسری طرف دیکھو، میں نے دیکھا تو وہاں بھی ایک بے شمار مجمع تھا۔ مجھے بتایا گیا: یہ آپ کی امت ہے اور ان میں سے ستر ہزار بغیر حساب اور بغیر عذاب کے جنت میں داخل ہوں گے۔'' پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اٹھ کر اپنے حجرے میں تشریف لے گئے اور لوگ ان ستر ہزار کے بارے میں بحث کرنے لگے۔ کچھ نے کہا: شاید وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھی ہیں۔ کچھ نے کہا: شاید وہ ہیں جو اسلام میں پیدا ہوئے اور انہوں نے اللہ کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہ ٹھہرایا۔ انہوں نے اور بھی کئی باتیں کہیں۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تشریف لائے اور ارشاد فرمایا: ''تم کس بارے میں بحث کر رہے تھے؟'' انہوں نے بتایا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''وہ ایسے لوگ ہیں جو دم نہیں کرواتے، داغنے سے علاج نہیں کرواتے، شگون نہیں لیتے اور اپنے رب پر (کامل) توکل کرتے ہیں۔'' عکاشہ بن محصن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کھڑے ہوئے اور عرض کیا: اللہ سے دعا کیجیے کہ مجھے ان میں سے بنا دے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ''تم ان میں سے ہو۔'' پھر ایک اور آدمی کھڑا ہوا اور عرض کیا: اللہ سے دعا کیجیے کہ مجھے بھی ان میں سے بنا دے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ''عکاشہ (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) تم سے سبقت لے گئے۔''
