Hadrat Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna, and Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us — their wordings are similar. Hadrat Abu Bakr said: Ghundar narrated from Shu'bah; and the other two said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated from Abu Jamrah, who said: I used to interpret between Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) and the people. A woman came asking him about nabidh (drink) from a jar. Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: The delegation of 'Abd al-Qays came to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked: 'Who is this delegation — or who are these people?' They said: 'Rabi'ah.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Welcome to the people — or the delegation — who are neither disgraced nor regretful.' They submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), we have come from afar and between us and you is this tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar. We can only come to you during the sacred month. So command us with a clear directive that we may convey to those we left behind and thereby enter Paradise.' Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) commanded them with four things and forbade them from four things. He commanded them to believe in Allah alone with no partner — then said: 'Do you know what faith in Allah alone with no partner means?' They submitted: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He stated: 'To testify that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to pay the fifth of the war-spoils.' And he forbade them from the dried gourd, the hollowed stump, the green jar, and the pitch-coated vessel — Shu'bah said: perhaps he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said 'the pitch-coated one' — and stated: 'Memorize this and convey it to those you left behind.'

ہم سے حضرت ابو بکر بن ابی شیبہ، محمد بن مثنیٰ اور محمد بن بشار نے — اور ان کے الفاظ ملتے جلتے ہیں — بیان کیا۔ حضرت ابو بکر نے کہا: ہم سے غندر نے شعبہ سے حدیث بیان کی، اور باقی دونوں نے کہا: ہم سے محمد بن جعفر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے ابو جمرہ سے حدیث بیان کی، فرمایا: میں حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما اور لوگوں کے درمیان ترجمان تھا۔ ان کے پاس ایک عورت آئی جو ان سے گھڑے کی نبیذ کے بارے میں پوچھ رہی تھی۔ حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: عبدالقیس کا وفد رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بارگاہ میں حاضر ہوا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے پوچھا: ''یہ وفد کون ہے؟ — یا فرمایا — یہ قوم کون ہے؟'' انہوں نے عرض کیا: ربیعہ۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ''مرحبا اس قوم کو — یا اس وفد کو — جو نہ رسوا ہوا نہ نادم۔'' انہوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم دور سے آپ کی خدمت میں آئے ہیں اور ہمارے اور آپ کے درمیان مضر کے کفار کا یہ قبیلہ ہے، ہم آپ کی خدمت میں صرف حرمت والے مہینے میں آ سکتے ہیں۔ پس ہمیں ایسی واضح بات کا حکم فرمائیے جس کی خبر ہم اپنے پیچھے رہ جانے والوں کو دیں اور اس کے ذریعے جنت میں داخل ہوں۔ حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں چار باتوں کا حکم دیا اور چار باتوں سے منع فرمایا: انہیں اللہ تعالیٰ وحدہ لاشریک پر ایمان لانے کا حکم دیا — پھر فرمایا: ''کیا تم جانتے ہو اللہ وحدہ لاشریک پر ایمان لانا کیا ہے؟'' عرض کیا: اللہ اور اس کے رسول بہتر جانتے ہیں۔ ارشاد فرمایا: ''اس بات کی گواہی دینا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اللہ کے رسول ہیں، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، رمضان کے روزے رکھنا اور مالِ غنیمت کا پانچواں حصہ ادا کرنا۔'' اور انہیں خشک کدو، لکڑی سے تراشیدہ برتن، سبز مٹکے اور تارکول لگے ہوئے برتن سے منع فرمایا — شعبہ نے کہا: شاید آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ''مقیّر'' (تارکول والا) فرمایا — اور فرمایا: ''اسے یاد رکھو اور اپنے پیچھے رہ جانے والوں تک پہنچاؤ۔''
