Abu Hurayrah and Zayd ibn Khalid (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that two men came before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) with a dispute. One said: "Judge between us according to the Book of Allah." The other, who was more understanding, said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, judge between us according to the Book of Allah and allow me to speak." The Prophet said: "Speak." He said: "My son was an employee of this man, and he committed adultery with his wife. I ransomed him with a hundred sheep and a servant. Then I asked the people of knowledge, and they told me that my son deserves a hundred lashes and exile for one year, and that his wife deserves stoning." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I will judge between you according to the Book of Allah: the hundred sheep and the servant are to be returned to you." And he sentenced his son to a hundred lashes and exile for one year, and ordered Unays al-Aslami to go to the wife of the other man, and if she confessed, to stone her. She confessed, and he stoned her.
