Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Thaqif were allies of Banu Uqayl. Thaqif captured two men from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah captured a man from Banu Uqayl and seized al-Adba (the Prophet's she-camel) along with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to the captive while he was in bonds, and the man called out: O Muhammad! O Muhammad! So he came to him and said: "What is the matter with you?" He said: Why have you captured me, and why have you taken the she-camel that leads the pilgrims? He said: "I have captured you because of the crimes of your allies, Thaqif." Then he turned away from him. The man called out again: O Muhammad! O Muhammad! And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was compassionate and gentle, so he returned to him and said: "What is the matter with you?" He said: I am a Muslim. He said: "Had you said that when you were in control of your own affairs, you would have succeeded completely." Then he turned away. The man called out again: O Muhammad! O Muhammad! He came to him and said: "What is the matter with you?" He said: I am hungry, so feed me, and thirsty, so give me drink. He said: "That is your need." So he ransomed him for the two men. Then a woman from the Ansar was captured, and al-Adba was also taken. The woman was in bonds, and the people used to graze their camels in front of their houses. One night she escaped from her bonds and came to the camels. Whenever she approached a camel, it would grunt, so she left it until she reached al-Adba, which did not grunt — it was a well-trained she-camel. She sat on its back, urged it on, and it set off. They noticed her absence and pursued her but she outran them. She vowed that if Allah saved her, she would slaughter the she-camel. When she reached Madinah, the people saw the camel and said: This is al-Adba, the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah! She said: She had vowed that if Allah saved her, she would slaughter it. They went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and told him about it. He said: "Glory be to Allah! What a terrible way to repay it! She vowed that if Allah saved her she would slaughter it. There is no fulfillment of a vow that involves disobedience to Allah, nor in what a person does not own."
