أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ* عَنْ أَبِي حَرْبِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الدُّؤَلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ وَقَدْ وَضَعْتُ رِجْلَيَّ فِي الْغَرْزِ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الْعِرَاقَ لَا تَأْتِ أَهْلَ الْعِرَاقِ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ أَتَيْتَهُمْ أَصَابَكَ ذُبَابُ السَّيْفِ بِهَا قَالَ عَلِيٌّ «وَأَيْمُ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ قَالَهَا لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ» قَالَ أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي مَا رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ رَجُلًا مُحَارِبًا يُحَدِّثُ النَّاسَ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا

Al-Fadl ibn al-Hubab informed us, Ibrahim ibn Bashshar al-Ramadi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, Abd al-Malik ibn A'yan narrated to us from Abu Harb ibn Abi al-Aswad al-Du'ali from his father from Ali ibn Abi Talib who said: Abdullah ibn Salam said to me when I had placed my feet in the stirrups and was heading to Iraq: Do not go to the people of Iraq, for if you go to them, the point of the sword will strike you there. Ali said: "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah said the same to me." Abu al-Aswad said: I said to myself: I have never seen the like of today - a man going to war telling people something like this.
