Al-Fadl ibn al-Hubab al-Jumahi informed us, Ali ibn al-Madini narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us from al-Awza'i from Hassan ibn Atiyyah from Khalid ibn Ma'dan from Jubayr ibn Nufayr from Dhu Mikhbar, the nephew of al-Najashi, that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "You will make peace with the Romans in a secure peace, then you and they will fight an enemy from beyond them, and you will be victorious and take spoils and depart until you camp at a meadow with hills. Then a speaker from the Romans will say: 'The cross has prevailed,' and a speaker from the Muslims will say: 'Rather, Allah has prevailed.' The Muslim will rise against their cross while he is not far from it and smash it. The Romans will rise against the one who broke their cross and strike his neck. The Muslims will rise to their weapons and fight. Allah will honor that group of Muslims with martyrdom. The Romans will say to their king: 'We have spared you from the Arabs.' So they will gather for the great battle and come to you under eighty banners, under each banner twelve thousand."
